Former Concert & Live Events Producer / Stagehand / Handyperson / Musician True Lawton had to find a way to make ends meet when covid hit in 2020, and has since put together a band of perfect-fits, the ATX HANDYBAND COLLECTIVE.
You may have first heard of the Handyband Collective last year, when they were nominated for “Most Rockin’ Repairs” from the critics picks on Austin Chronicle’s “Best in Austin” Polls in 2024.

Four years ago, True launched a video looking to gather his handyband to help Austinites Fix their Life, while also helping musicians Get Paid.

Some KLBJ staff have booked gigs with the ATX Handyband for repairs that are too small for a private or well-known company, but requires more skills than your average handyman. Some of these services range from re-fencing + and a handful of posts, to replacing a 5×5 square of ceiling drywall, to installing a fan or a mailbox, and hanging a mounted TV.
They even have Specialists who do more than just painting, patching, fencing, and decking. Just Request a GIG with your project info and they’ll help make sure you know if it’s something they can handle or not!

Meet the HandyBand
- Lee Braverman is in one of the biggest Grateful Dead tribute bands in Texas called Dead Eye, and also plays in Honey Made, Funk-O-Tron, and his own Lee Braverman Band.
- “Dr ” Chad Pope is a Hell raiser and all around heavy-hitting handyman, consistently playing shows here [in Austin] and points beyond, (POPE)
- Drew Potter is in a handful of badass metal bands, his own being Sudden Deaf, and also Duel who you have definitely heard on Midnight Metal with Chuck.
